Yeah that’s me, tall and balding. Some think of me as witty, in my opinion I lean more towards sarcastic. I believe that you learn more when you laugh and less when you stress, so you’d better bring your laughing gear when you come to one of my classes or demonstrations.
To my knowledge I am the first Cake Artist in my family tree, possibly a wayward branch that missed being pruned. I’m Welsh, being born in Cardiff, and the Welsh are renowned for being great in the kitchen so baking is definitely in my genes.
Since Graduating Bakery College with distinctions in 1980 I have, for periods of time, lived and decorated in both America and Australia, these influences can certainly be seen in my work. I’m a member of The British Sugarcraft Guild (BSG) and one of their accredited demonstrators, also proud to be a member of The International Cake Exploration Society (ICES).
I am a believer that each new skill learned is a gift to be treasured and that knowledge is best shared. With this is mind the further development of skills within the sugar crafting community is a personal goal of mine.
My dream is to own a place large enough to house my love of crafting, with a shop, offices for internet sales, space for classes and demonstrations, a coffee shop and maybe an annual exhibition/competition. Eventually I wish to build Ceri. Dz Artistry & Design Centre Cardiff, for those who love the art of Sugarcraft, Cake Decoration, Paper Crafting & Design. A big dream I know, but you have to aim high or you won’t get anywhere.
Why am I telling you this? Because when that dream comes true you’re all invited for a cup of tea and a Welsh cake.
See you there Ceri. D

Hi Ceri
Just a note to say I really enjoyed your demonstration, well worth the time of going, I am a founder member of Cheltenham branch and have only missed about 4 in all that time. So I think I can spot a good demonstration when I see one, yours had plenty of variety in it and you must have put a lot of thought and effort into it. I am not on the committee so I hope our secretary will send you congratulations too, butterflies were fab, royal iced and porcelain.
Will see you at the N.E.C.

Congratulations for your Gold award at NEC. Having seen you at two demonstrations your cake just stood out as your distinguishable work. It was fab. Gloucester members who did not make it to NEC will be able to have a look at my photos. I am sure you will be inundated with even more requests.

Hi Ceri!
Beautiful wedding cake! I love the piping! I wish we would see more royal iced work here, but we seldom do, such a shame! Congratulations on being a judge, I know that must be so exciting!

Hi Ceri,
I was on your beginner’s royal icing course at Squires at the beginning of September. I wanted to say that I thoroughly enjoyed it and have raved about it (and you) to everyone I know!
Many many thanks

Hi there Ceri
I really love your demonstrations on this page. I have been learning the art of sugarcraft for a while now. I have taught myself to do sugar flowers with the aid of books and the internet. I have had many good comments like “Are they real” etc. So I am pleased with myself on that score. But my downfall is the art of Royal Icing, so I have booked myself into the local City college to do a 9 month course on Cake artistry. Cant wait. Your work is amazing and if I can only do it half as good as you, I shall be totally pleased with myself. Your online demos are brilliant. I wish I lived closer to you. Jenny

My first book ‘Border Inspirations 1′ is available on my website, ‘Border Inspirations 2′ is due out by the first week of March 2012 and I have a book coming out from Squires Kitchen in approx September 2012, there’s a possibility I will have another book out by CAKE NEC November 2012.
